The name given to the group of highly influential stars who died at the young age of 27. Although there are dozens of artists in the 27 Club, the most notable are Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, and Amy Winehouse. Most of the members of this club led somewhat troubled lives and the causes of their deaths were surrounded by a shroud of mystery. Indeed, investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, and Amy Winehouse quickly leads to unanswered questions and strange abnormalities. No autopsies, no definitive causes of death and vague police reports seem to be the norm in these high-profile cases. In short, we can find in these untimely deaths everything required to generate “alternative theories” involving murder.
Some believe that members of The 27 Club (see below) have all signed a contract with the devil to achieve fame and fortune in rock and roll, starting with blues musician Robert Johnson. The legend goes that Johnson had no talent at guitar, but yearned for major success. One night, he heard a voice that told him to visit the crossroads by Dockery’s plantation at midnight. There, he was met by a large black man who apparently was the devil in disguise. The big man took the guitar from Johnson, tuned it, and returned it to him. This devil offered him the guitar in exchange for his soul. Robert Johnson returned from the plantation with the magic guitar and became a blues virtuoso overnight. The legend was portrayed briefly in the movie ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?‘. He died on August 16th, 1938. It was at times contributed to strychnine poisoning, but this is also widely disputed. The mystery surrounding his death also contributes to his significant legacy. Even though his recordings consisted of a scant 29 master recordings that were recorded during 1936-37 his music was an important part of the fabric of rock and roll.
“Johnson’s improvement on his instrument was swift and amazing (although historically, it took him about a year to become great). He earned the instant recognition of big name guitarists like Son House, who championed his cause. However, Johnson was tormented in his dreams by visions of the devil, and hellhounds on his trail. In his waking hours, Johnson played the role of bluesman hero, chasing women, drinking, behaving arrogantly. In 1938, during a show, he was poisoned (possibly by a jealous husband of a woman he had been putting moves on). The poison had him foaming at the mouth and talking babble, he died within days.
He wrote songs about his experience with the devil with such titles as “Hell Hound On My Trail” (utilizes another common theme: fear of the devil). Six of Johnson’s blues songs mention the devil or some form of the supernatural. In “Me And The Devil” he began, “Early this morning when you knocked upon my door/Early this morning, umb, when you knocked upon my door/And I said, ‘Hello, Satan, I believe it’s time to go,'” before leading into “You may bury my body down by the highway side/You may bury my body, uumh, down by the highway side/So my old evil spirit can catch a Greyhound bus and ride.”
His last words were ‘I pray that my redeemer will come and take me from my grave.’ He died at age 27.
“The Blues has always been the Devil’s music. Music that glorified drinking, womanizing, gambling, dope, violence, and depravity, blues was an easy target for ministers and pastors of the South, who countered with sermons forbidding the congregation to listen to it. Many god-fearing churchgoers heeded this message, establishing Gospel as the safer alternative. Even some bluesmen were convinced; legendary blues picker Gary Davis usually refused to play blues after he was ordained as a reverend in 1937. Ultimately, he relented just before his death and recorded a historic session of blues (secular and gospel) in 1971. He died soon after.”
According to an “anonymous” Satanic high priestess, all members of The 27 Club since Johnson have been promised fame and fortune in exchange for their agreement to teach youth to serve Satan. She claims that they hold special ceremonies during recording sessions where they place satanic blessings on their music. As the music is played, these demons are called into the room to afflict the person playing the music and anyone who is listening.
This woman did not want to share her name, but we’ll refer to her as Lisa. Lisa used to practice Satanism. She said rock music was a carefully devised and executed plan of the devil. When Lisa became a high priestess (a high rank in satanism), she got to meet the famous rock stars of that time. She said they had all signed a contract to the devil for fame and fortune in rock. Lisa said that these rocks stars are teaching untold millions of youth to worship and serve Satan knowingly and unknowingly. She had attended special ceremonies at various recording studios throughout the U.S. for the specific purpose of placing satanic “blessings” on the rock music recorded.She and others did incantations (satanic “prayers” or curses) which placed demons on EVERY record and tape of rock music sold. At times they also called up special demons who spoke on the recordings – especially in the various backmasked messages. You’ll also here it in pop music today. Also, in many, many of the recordings, the satanists themselves were recorded in the background (masked by the over-all noise of the music) doing chants and incantations to summon up more demons every time one of the records or tapes or videos is played by the purchaser. As the music is played, these demons are called into the room to afflict the person playing the music and anyone else who is listening. The number 27 may just be the most infamous number in the history of rock music. This number has taken on mythical proportions due to the prevalence of musicians who died at the age of 27.
The 27 death phenomenon started to become prevalent during the years 1969-71. During that period the rock & roll world lost the following musicians due to death: Dickie Pride, Brian Jones, Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Arlester “Dyke” Christian. The term “Forever 27 Club” was not coined to refer to the list of musicians who died at the age of 27 until after Kurt Cobain death on April 5th, 1994. Since the death of Cobain, there has been much focus in the media surrounding the 27 death phenomenon. Also the high profile death of Amy Winehouse on July 23rd, 2011 once again brought renewed interest concerning the 27 club.
With the June 19, 2016 death of actor Anton Yelchin (Pavel Checkov in the reboot of The Star Trek movie series), the 27 Club once again was starting to make news. With his death the media started to include young actors and other notable artists has part of the 27 Club. Even though their deaths were as equally tragic, this article is focusing on musicians that died at that age.
Numerology.In numerology, the number 27 reduces to the number 9, which represents the end of a cycle. These transitional cycles are highly charged, and can be too much for some to handle. When faced with the discomfort of the unknown, many will turn to drugs and alcohol to cope, seek a way out through suicide, or engage in reckless behavior that ends up crossing the line. But this is oversimplified. To understand The 27 Club phenomenon, numerologists also look at life path numbers, period cycles, and pinnacle cycles. Without getting too technical, the theory is when all these numbers and cycles align at the age of 27, they may predict an untimely death.
27 is a lunar symbol, for light in darkness or light itself. It takes the Moon 27 days to orbit the Earth. 27 is called the trinity of trinities 3x3x3=27. 3×3=9. 3×9=27. 27 is a sacred number, but Satan has desecrated its sacred symbolism as he has many sacred things to illuminate and deceive many into seeking the monopolized knowledge he can thus provide through his deceptions. The Illuminati have made 9 the eternal number of immortality, multiplied by 3, symbolic of perfection or Godhood, creating their false gods worshiped by the masses. Of course, 3 inverted 9’s is 666, the number of the beast.
At age 27, there’s the highest brain activity, and then it starts to deteriorate slowly according to science. That’s why it’s called the “Forever 27 Club” or 27 curse. It is linked with Mk-Ultra – living “forever young”, and is Satan’s counterfeit for the gift of immortality and eternal life that can only be given through Jesus Christ, who atoned for our sins making it possible to repent and achieve eternal life through His blood.
Notable Members of the Forever 27 Club
Even though the formation of the 27 club is quite often linked to 1969 with the death of Rolling Stones bassist Brian Jones, there were a number of musicians who died at the age of 27 prior to that. The most prominent is one of the founding fathers of the blues, Robert Johnson, discussed above. The earliest recorded member of the 27 club was composer Alexandre Levy who died on January 17th, 1892.
Now we are going to profile a selected list of Forever 27 Club members. This includes high profile members along with rock & roll unsung heroes who died before their time.

Brian Jones
Brain Jones was a founding member and guitarist for The Rolling Stones. Due to developing a serious drug addiction he was kicked out of the Rolling Stones in 1969, being replaced by Mick Taylor. Less than a month later he died on July 3rd, 1969 due to a tragic drowning accident which took place at his swimming pool.
When people make reference to the 27 club, Jones is quite often is referred to as the start of that rock movement. His death was the beginning of a two year period which also marked the deaths of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin & Jim Morrison at the age of 27.
Jimi Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix is widely considered to be the greatest guitarist of all time and is considered to be one of the most influential musicians in the history of rock. One of the remarkable aspects of Hendrix’s recording career is that his rich legacy was primarily established during a three year period.
Jimi Hendrix died at the age of 27, on September 18th, 1970. The official cause of death has been cited as Asphyxiation caused by an overdose of painkillers. That being said conspiracy theorist has also cited the possibility of suicide and murder. Like many of the great rock & roll casualties, the mysterious circumstances behind his death have added to his legacy.
Janis Joplin
The “The Queen of Psychedelic Soul” died just 16 days after Jimi Hendrix on October 4, 1970. The official cause of death was cited as a heroin overdose which may have been exasperated by the abuse of alcohol.
Like many of the members of the 27 club, she was a deeply troubled artist who lived a hard life. She also is widely considered one of the most influential female vocalists of all time.
Jim Morrison
The charismatic front man of The Doors died at the age of 27 on July 3rd, 1971. Morrison died two years from the day that Brian Jones died. He allegedly died of a heroin overdose, but because an autopsy was never performed there is still some debate concerning the official cause. One conspiracy theory involved Morrison faking his death, and that he never really died.
Jim Morrison was buried in the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris France. His grave site has become a popular tourist attraction. It has also caused issues with the cemetery due to vandalism. Jim Morrison’s long time companion, Pamela Courson, died on April 25th, 1974. She was also 27 years old.
Ron “Pigpen” McKernan
Ron “Pigpen” McKernan was a founding member of The Grateful Dead. On March 3rd, 1973 he was found dead of a Gastrointestinal hemorrhage which was complicated by alcohol abuse.
McKernan also had a brief relationship with fellow club 27 member Janis Joplin. On a couple of occasions the two dueted together on the Dead’s live standard “Turn on Your Lovelight.
Chris Bell
Chris Bell was the lead guitarist and along with Alex Chilton he was the primary songwriter for Big Star. Bell left the band after their influential, but commercially overlooked power pop gem #1 Record. He went on to release two songs in 1978, “I Am the Cosmos” & “You and Your Sister”. These two songs were also included in his posthumous debut solo, I Am the Cosmos, which wasn’t released until 1992.
Bell died on December 27th, 1978 when he lost control of his Triumph TR7 sports car. His funeral took place the next day on December 28th, which coincided with the birthday of former band mate Alex Chilton. Bell continues to be an influential figure in the development of power pop and indie rock.
D. Boon
D. Boon was the guitarist, lead vocalist and one of the primary songwriters (along with Mike Watt) for the influential hardcore punk band Minutemen. D. Boon was listed as #89 on Rolling Stones list of the 100 greatest guitarist of all time. His guitar style which had a heavy funk & blues feel help make the Minutemen more diverse than the average band from the 80s’ hardcore scene.
Boon died on December 22nd, 1985 due to a Van accident. Because he had a fever he was laying in the back recuperating when the van crashed.
Since D. Boon tragic death, Mike Watt and George Hurley of Minutemen continued on as fIREHOSE. Every album Mike Watt has put out, either solo or as part of fIREHOSE as been dedicated to his fallen compadre. He has also written a number of songs as a direct tribute to D. Boon.
It was after Kurt Cobain’s death on April 5th, 1994 which really started to generate interest in the 27 death phenomenon. It was after the death of the Nirvana’s front man that the term “Forever 27 Club” (also referred to as 27 Club, Club 27 and Curse of 27) started to be used.
Like many of the previous members of Club 27, Cobain was deeply troubled and there are numerous conspiracy theories surrounding his death. The official cause of death is suicide, but there are those that feel he was murdered. There are also theories that Cobain intentionally timed his death so that he could join his musical idols as a member of the 27 club.
Richey Edwards
The rhythm guitarist and main lyricists of UK alternative band Manic Street Preachers is one of the more mysterious additions to the list. Edwards went missing on February 1st, 1995 and he was presumed dead on November 23rd, 2008. Because his car was found abandoned on February 17th, 1995 in close proximity to Severn Bridge, it is widely believed that he committed suicide.
The ninth album recorded by the Manic Street Preachers, Journal for Plague Lovers was released on May 18th, 2009 and feature previously unused lyrics written by Edwards.
Amy Winehouse
When Amy Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning on July 23rd, 2011 she became the most high profile member of the 27 club since the death of Kurt Cobain. Winehouse death definitely renewed interest in the curse of 27. Just like the other more high profile members of club 27, Winehouse was deeply troubled and she lived a hard life which lead to her premature demise.
Her throwback style with an edge was considered to be truly influential to a number of female artists who would go on to achieve substantial success. In the music video below, you see Amy Winehouse escorted from the beginning of the video to her grave site at the end of the video by a throwback, black jazz musician that has an uncanny resemblance to Bobby Johnson, perhaps the initial 27 Club member. Is this foreshadowing by the Illuminati?
List of Members in the Forever 27 Club
The phenomenon of stars dying at a young age in strange circumstances goes beyond the well-publicized 27 Club. While this Club is “reserved” to singers dying at the exact age of 27, many other types of artists have died in mysterious circumstances around the age of 30. Recently, the deaths of Heath Ledger (see the article about him entitled “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” and Heath Ledger’s Sacrifice) and Brittany Murphy followed the same pattern as those described above. Strangely enough, there often appears to be a media buildup around these figures before their death documenting their odd behavior or personal problems. Were these deaths premeditated and part of some kind of sick ritual carried on by the occult-minded elite at the helms of the industry? Are charismatic stars being risen to fame in order to later sacrifice them, creating a worldwide mega-ritual? Is the wave of shock and grief surrounding these events harnessed in some way by high-powered occultists? These concepts might sound totally ridiculous to the average person but, to occult initiates, the magical potency of a human sacrifices has been recognized and documented by the rituals of many ancient civilizations. In Secret Societies and Psychological Warfare, author Michael A. Hoffman II writes:
“The issue of controlling humanity with esoteric words and symbols encoded within a play, a media spectacular or a ritual is one of the most difficult for people to comprehend. That is why most people are viewed with utter contempt as “cowans”, “the profane”, “the gentiles” and “the goyim” by secret society initiates”
About mega-rituals Hoffman writes:
“[Some murders] are ritual murders involving a cult protected by the U.S. government and the corporate media, with strong ties to the police.
Such killings are actually intricately choreographed ceremonies; performed first on a very intimate and secret scale, among the initiates themselves in order to program them, then on a grand scale, amplified incalculably by the electronic media.
In the end what we have is a highly symbolic, ritual working broadcast to millions of people, a Satanic inversion; a Black mass, where the “pews” are filled by the entire nation and through which humanity is brutalized and debased in this, the ‘Nigredo’ phase of the alchemical process.

In the 1940s, the French poet and theater director Antonin Artaud predicted the advent of occult mega-rituals in media. Artaud was an adept of several forms of occultism and well-aware of the transformative powers of theatrical rituals: he created the infamous “Theater of Cruelty” that intended to profoundly change the audience. Regarding the processing of the Group Mind, Artaud wrote:
“Aside from the trifling witchcraft of country sorcerers, there are tricks of global hoodoo in which all alerted consciousnesses participate periodically … That is how strange forces are aroused and transported to the astral vault, to the dark dome which is composed above all of … the poisonous aggressiveness of the evil minds of most people … the formidable tentacular oppression of a kind of civic magic which will soon appear undisguised.”
In Hollywood, the subjects of these rituals are often manipulated and mind controlled and their deaths are often “announced” in some way or another through symbolic works. In The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, the last movie Heath Ledger appeared in, the theme of sacrifice is extremely important. In one important scene, we see the images of three celebrities who died young : Rudolph Valentino, James Dean and Princess Diana. Seeing these pictures, a woman says to Johnny Depp – who was one of Ledger’s replacements in the movie – “These people … they’re all dead”.
Depp replies:
“Yes … but immortal nevertheless. They won’t get old or fat. They won’t get sick or feeble. They are beyond fear because they are … forever young. They’re gods … and you can join them.”
He then added:
“Your sacrifice must be pure.”
