The Federal Republic of Nigeria is a large oil-rich country in West Africa. It has land borders with Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin. Its capital is Abuja and the largest city is Lagos. The population in 2016 was 186 million, and growing rapidly due to high birth rates.

Nigeria is a rapidly growing nation with a young population projected to be 392 million and the fourth largest in the world by 2050. Muslims constitute 50% of the population, Christians 40%, and indigenous beliefs 10%.

There are 150.83 million mobile phone subscribers, or 83% of the population, the 9th largest group in the world as of 2015. English is the official language. It has huge oil reserves that are worked by the world’s major oil companies. Read more…
