Afghanistan has the misfortune of sitting in a strategic position at the crossroads of Central Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and the Middle East. Despite its mountainous terrain and fiercely independent inhabitants, the country has been invaded time after time throughout its history. Today, Afghanistan is once more embroiled in war, pitting NATO troops and the current government against the ousted Taliban and its allies. Afghanistan is a fascinating but violence-wracked country, where East meets West.

A former Obama administration official pleaded guilty to federal charges for his involvement in a secretive effort to unduly influence the Trump administration. Richard G. Olson, who was then-President Barack Obama’s special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan in 2015 and 2016, admitted that he lied on ethics paperwork and broke so-called ‘revolving door’ statutes. The report noted that the misdemeanor violations came in connection with Olson lobbying for ...
The Taliban have banned the cultivation of opium poppies in Afghanistan, according to a Sunday decree from the group's top commander. The decree was issued by the Islamic organization's supreme leader, Haibatullah Akhundzada, who also banned other substances. The order also prohibits the "use, transport, trade, export and import of all types of narcotics," including alcohol, hashish, and heroin. "If anyone violates the decree" against poppy ...
Previously, the largest single-day loss of U.S. servicemen occurred while Joe Biden was vice president under Barack Obama. On August 6, 2011, a CH-47 Chinook helicopter carrying 30 American servicemen, including 22 Navy SEALs, was shot down by Taliban fighters with a rocket-propelled grenade. The suicide bombings occurred outside of Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport and the Baron Hotel attack killing 11 Marines, one Navy medic, and more than 60 Afghan ...
On 14th April 2021, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced the start of withdrawing troops from Afghanistan by May 1st. The withdrawal appeared to be uncoordinated at times, and while the Afghan Army tried to fight the takeover,[7][8] there were reported instances where equipment, vehicles and bases were captured with little resistance.[9][10][11] A delegation of the Taliban visiting China in late July 2021 was told that China expects the Taliban to play important role in ending ...
President Trump is set to declassify intelligence that indicates China offered to pay non-state actors to attack US soldiers in Afghanistan. Of course, the mainstream Pravda media says these reports are “unconfirmed.” When was the last time the mainstream media reported all of their Trump hit pieces were “unconfirmed.” https://twitter.com/disclosetv/status/1344417406421266432?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1344418553630498818%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es2_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thegatewaypundit.com%2F2020%2F12%2Ftrump-admin-declassifies-intelligence-indicates-china-offered-pay-non-state-actors-afghanistan-attack-us-soldiers%2F Axios reported: The Trump administration is declassifying as-yet uncorroborated intelligence, recently briefed to President Trump, that indicates ...
(ZeroHedge) Nearly two decades following 9/11 and the initial invasion of Afghanistan which ostensibly had as its objective the removal and destruction of the hardline Islamist Taliban government, the United States military is providing covert support to the same "outlawed" Taliban with the latest aim of booting ISIS from the country. A report in The Washington Post on Thursday details that this secret assistance focuses on the Pentagon providing air power ...
The Gateway Pundit debunked the fake “Russian bounties” reports almost immediately (well, before it the story collapsed in mid-April 2021 when the MSM had to retract): [A[ New York Times story, which did not cite any actual examples of a “Russian bounty” being paid for the deaths of U.S. soldiers and offered little in the way of evidence besides unnamed “officials” and “sources”, was principally written ...
There were multiple American casualties after U.S. and Afghan troops were fired on during a mission in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province on Saturday, two U.S. officials confirmed to Fox News. Military personnel were fired upon while carrying out the operation, but the number of deaths and the severity of any injuries have yet to be confirmed, according to The Associated Press. Military spokesman Col. Sonny Leggett issued in a statement, saying those ...
In what's already being hailed as a defining and explosive "Pentagon papers" moment, a cache of previously classified documents obtained by The Washington Post show top Pentagon leaders continuously lied to the public about the "progress" of the now eighteen-year long Afghan war. The some 2,000 pages of notes from interviews of senior officials who have shaped US strategy in Afghanistan confirm that “senior US officials failed to tell the ...
CIA-backed death squads in Afghanistan have committed a number of human rights violations over the last year, a Human Rights Watch report found Thursday, and the militant groups are likely to be the lasting legacy of the U.S. war in the country. “They do counterinsurgency the old-fashioned way,” tweeted Daily Beast national security reporter Spencer Ackerman, “terrorizing the populace.” The HRW report reviewed cases of abuse from late 2017 ...
