A book by Cleon Skousen that has sold more than a million copies and found its way into the libraries of the CIA, the FBI, the White House, and homes all across America. The book contains a distillation of more than a hundred books and treatises on communism, many written by Marxist authors. We see the communist the way he sees himself—stripped of propaganda and pretense. Explained here is the amazing appeal of communism, its history, and its basic and unchanging concepts—even its secret timetable of conquest.
Cleon Skousen was an FBI agent, and an adviser to presidents and universities about the dangers of Communist infiltration into our institutions. He lectured in every state in North America and over 60 countries. He was a scholar of law and history and specialized in the U.S. Constitution. In his book he reveals how communists pacifically take control of a nation with progressive engineering.
He warned:
“Communists possess the fortitude and knowledge to slowly reengineer society.”
This book has been called “the most powerful book on communism since J. Edgar Hoover’s ‘Masters of Deceit’.” In one clarifying and readable volume, the whole incredible story of communism is graphically told. It includes the tragic story of China, Korea, Russia, the UN, Alger Hiss, Whittaker Chambers, Elizabeth Bentley, General MacArthur, and others. In 1961, Skousen added the 45 goals of communism. Today, all but one of those goals is fulfilled.
Critics considered Skousen a radical whose theories were extreme since he used analogies and hypotheticals to exemplify how communists and socialists work. Yet this was necessary at a time few Americans realized how they had infiltrated our nation. He illustrates how they maneuver their way into society through the youth of a nation with socialism, which is the precursor to communism. When society one day realizes “how it is now”, is not “how it was” back then, and how it “will be in the future” there is no turning back because their youth will now consider totalitarianism status quo.
His insightful rendering unveils the deceptive nature of communism. It contains a quintessence of over a hundred treatises on socialism and communism written by Marx, Lenin and other socialists. He details how communists and socialists strategically infiltrate an existing political party to achieve their objectives and spread propaganda through spoon-fed information to the media. This was the first time anyone defined how people in capitalist nations are persuaded to choose communism or socialism at the expense of their liberty and freedom.
Skousen shocked America and the rest of the free world, pointing out how easily this is done while few people are aware it is happening to them. Written in 1958, some of the “current strategy goals which the Communists and their fellow travelers are seeking to achieve” seem dated and read like a history book from the past.
The book depicts the geopolitical strategy of the Marxist–Leninist Soviets’ plan to take control of all governments outside of the Communist Bloc. With the Cold War raging, this book filled an urgent need to explain modern totalitarianism. People learned the tactics communists and socialists use in political parties, unions and patriotic organizations to gain political and social influence in a society. They assume key leadership roles and slowly introduce anti-democratic dogma and leftist ideology.
Skousen claimed history is proof communists and socialists stick to their tried and true basic and successful tactics within set time-tables to reach their goals. He pointed out that they had already invaded mainstream media and were weakening our nation with passive acceptance of socialism and communism. A key stratagem is to destroy the family to impair the bonding unity that creates and molds character and morality. This will also diminish their interest in Judeo-Christian religions.
His penetrating look into geopolitical future contained 45 communist goals to turn capitalism into a communist-socialist state. We can safely say 40 of them have been achieved in America under the guise of liberalism. Jimmy Carter handed them education when he created the Department of Education in 1979. Now progressives use public schools to indoctrinate our youth with Common Core teaching materials.
“It is essential that we educate the educator so we control how they educate others.” – Karl Marx
Communist goal #17, as listed in the book:
“Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.” (Emphasis added.)
That part in bold especially catches ones attention. Haven’t Americans been suspicious for years that public school curriculum has been dumbed down? Prominent public figures have certainly made this claim, while a comparison of middle school reading lists from today’s schools and those of 100 years ago provides further evidence.
Things take a step closer to home by encouraging the use of “student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.” We’ve had not a little experience with riots and protests lately, many of which have been heavily attended by young people. Are they mere tools in the hands of an ideology we don’t realize is pulling the strings?
Even more terrifying, the list progresses from student riots to the cancel culture and statue bashing we are also currently experiencing.
“Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression,” item number 22 commands, while number 31 calls for Communists to “[b]elittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history….”
The document also suggests discrediting both the Constitution and the Founding Fathers.
Of the latter, it says,
“[p]resent them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the ‘common man.’”
Sounds similar to the “slave-holding racists” that the Founders are now portrayed as, does it not?
The list is extensive and many of the items listed as eventual goals are now accepted parts of our culture. There is one more, though, that deserves a closer look:
“Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use ‘united force’ to solve economic, political or social problems.”
Since the death of George Floyd in 2020, protests and violence have become commonplace. The large gatherings banned by our governments during the COVID-19 pandemic suddenly became necessary for fighting racism.
Indeed, systemic racism is increasingly labeled as a “public health crisis” that Black Lives Matter must wage war against. Furthermore, complete unity is demanded from the public. Those who refuse to go along—or fail to say anything at all—are immediately ostracized.
Where does this leave us?
Should we start running around screaming, “The Communists are coming! The Communists are coming!”?
No. Now isn’t the time to lose our heads. Rather, we should look at this historical list, recognize the parallels it has with our current culture, and ask ourselves whether there’s an ideology working to undermine the values, history, and ideas upon which America was founded.
If we conclude that there is, we have a decision to make.
Do we accept that ideology and allow it to take over America?
If so, it’s time to join the throngs of corporations, politicians, and average citizens in agitating for change.
But if we decide that ideology isn’t in line with what we believe, nor with the direction we want to see America go, then we must be ready to choose the road less traveled.
This road is one of standing up for truth and justice. It also involves warning others of the consequences that come from giving way to an ideology completely opposed to what America has sought to protect and advance over the years.
As “The Naked Communist” implies, the alarm bell has been sounding for many years. Now, we just need the ears to hear and respond to it.
Under Obama’s extensive government social engineering, federalists control our healthcare and support a large underclass. Parents today surrender their siblings to government approved pre-K education. This has dramatically affected family bonding and moral development with our youth. It has limited the augmentation of their Judeo-Christian faith education at home and in schools. As a result of this, fewer young Americans attend weekly family church services than at any time in history.
Cleon Skousen wrote, “A communist’s most vital tool is the media.” Socialists invaded our news rooms during the Cold War to spread acceptance of communism and have moved public opinion to the left since. They skew news on elections to elect leftists and excoriate conservative politicians. They pre-sold Barack Obama and facilitated his re-engineering of our socio-economic architecture. They have done everything in their power to destroy the successful presidency of Donald Trump.”
Whether Cleon Skousen was an insightful political analyst or psychic clairvoyant, his message was perspicacious. He critiqued the formula communists and socialists use to take control of a nation. It’s daunting to see how many of their goals are etched in the U.S. today.
Goal 15 was to “Capture a political party.” We need not look any further than the presidency of Barack Obama and the rise of socialism within the Democratic Party today to validate Cleon Skousen’s warnings 60 years ago. He told us this will happen in America if we fall asleep at the wheel as guardians of our democracy.
Marx told us, “Theory is capable of gripping the masses as soon as it demonstrates ad hominem, and it demonstrates ad hominem as soon as it becomes radical.” This is what the liberal controlled media has done to our political environment, and we have bought into this without cognition. We’ve taken their bait, hook, line and sinker. And now they are ready to finish the job next election.
“We cannot expect the Americans to jump from capitalism to communism, but we can feed them small doses of socialism, until they awake to find they have true communism.” – Nikita Khrushchev
Among the many other questions it answers are:
- Who gave America’s nuclear secrets to the Russians?
- How did the FBI fight the battle of the underground?
- Why did the West lose 600 million allies after World War II?
- What really happened in Korea?
- What is communism’s great secret weapon?
- Is there an answer to communism?
- What lies ahead?
- What can I do to stop communism?
This may be the most important question of all that this book answers is how to stop communism and how to do it without a major war. National broadcaster Paul Harvey at CBS said, “I have never given any volume such an unqualified endorsement.”
No one is better qualified to discuss the threat to this nation from communism. You will be alarmed, you will be informed and you’ll be glad you heard him (W. Cleon Skousen). — President Ronald Reagan, United States President
“I went back and I read ‘The Naked Communist’ and at the end of that Skousen predicted [that] someday soon you won’t be able to find the truth in schools or in libraries or anywhere else because it won’t be in print anymore. So you must collect those books. It’s an idea I read from Cleon Skousen from his book in the 1950s, ‘The Naked Communist,’ and where he talked about someday the history of this country’s going to be lost because it’s going to be hijacked by intellectuals and communists and everything else. And I think we’re there.“ — Glenn Beck, Host of the nationally syndicated “Glenn Beck Radio Program”
“The Naked Communist lays out the whole progressive plan. It is UNBELIEVABLE how fast it has been achievable.” — Dr. Ben Carson, The Sean Hannity Show, May 23, 2014
“I feel certain that your efforts on this important subject (communism) will receive widespread attention and consideration.”
–J. Edgar Hoover, Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation“We believe in a moral code. Communism denies innate right or wrong. As W. Cleon Skousen has said in his timely book, The Naked Communist: The communist ‘has convinced himself that nothing is evil which answers the call of expediency.’ This is a most damnable doctrine. People who truly accept such a philosophy have neither conscience nor honor. Force, trickery, lies, broken promises are wholly justified.” — Ezra Taft Benson, United States Secretary of Agriculture under President Eisenhower
