Ronan Farrow Releases New Book: Claims NBC News Allegedly Killed The Weinstein Story Because He Threatened To Out Lauer

NBC News allegedly killed reporter Ronan Farrow’s explosive story about sexual assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein after the now-disgraced movie mogul threatened to reveal then-NBC host Matt Lauer for his sexual misconduct allegations, Farrow’s upcoming book claims.

“Catch and Kill: Lies, Spies and a Conspiracy to Protect Predators” gives a detailed account of the sexual assault allegations against Weinstein and the cover-up attempts made by those “from Hollywood to Washington and beyond,” an Amazon description on Farrow’s upcoming book reads.

“Weinstein made it known to the network [NBC News] that he was aware of Lauer’s behavior and capable of revealing it,” Farrow writes in his book, according to Hollywood Reporter. The book includes allegations that Weinstein used the National Enquirer’s dirt on Lauer, formerly a host on “The Today Show,” to get NBC to kill the story.

The New Yorker published Farrow’s story about Weinstein on Oct. 10, 2017. The article details a 10-month investigation by Farrow where 13 women accused Weinstein of sexually harassing or assaulting them. Farrow’s book, available Oct. 15, delves into the alleged cover-up attempts he discovered during the investigation, including this report that NBC News allegedly killed the story because of pressure from Weinstein.

NBC News denied the allegation, a note that is detailed in Farrow’s book. (RELATED: Harvey Weinstein Accusers Reach $44 Million Settlement In Sexual Misconduct Case)

“NBC News was never contacted by AMI, or made aware in any way of any threats from them, or from anyone else, for that matter. And the idea of NBC News taking a threat seriously from a tabloid company about Matt Lauer is especially preposterous, since they already covered him with great regularity,” the network said in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

AMI, or American Media Inc., publishes the National Enquirer. Weinstein met with Dylan Howard, chief content officer for the Enquirer, to get dirt on Lauer in order to pressure NBC News into dropping the story, according to Farrow.

Hillary’s Publicist Pressured Ronan Farrow to Drop Harvey Weinstein Story

Also, according to Farrow’s book, Hillary Clinton’s publicist, Nick Merrill, pressured Farrow to drop his story on Harvey Weinstein, allegedly at Weinstein’s behest.

“Weinstein also attempted to leverage his long-term relationship with Hillary Clinton to pressure Farrow, he writes,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. “In summer 2017, while Farrow was trying to lock down an interview with Clinton for his foreign policy book — while also still working on the Weinstein story — he received a call from Clinton’s publicist, Nick Merrill, who told him that the ‘big story’ Farrow was working on was a ‘concern for us.'”

It gets worse for Hillary, however: “Then, in September 2017, according to an email cited in the book, Weinstein wrote to Deborah Turness, the ex-president of NBC News who now runs NBC News International, to propose a docuseries on Clinton. ‘Your Hillary doc series sounds absolutely stunning,’ Turness responded.”

Dozens of women have accused Weinstein of pressuring them to give him sexual favors in exchange for access to the acting business. He is set to face trial on rape charges in New York City in January.

Farrow’s reporting suggests that Clinton — hailed as a champion of women — pressured Ronan Farrow to drop his story on one of the most notorious offenders whose story launched the #MeToo movement against sexual assault.

In recent days, some have speculated that Clinton may be planning another presidential run if former Vice President Joe Biden fades. She recently said, “So maybe there does need to be a re-match” of 2016. “Obviously, I can beat him again.”

Not only did Clinton lose the election in 2016, but this recent scandal will likely put any such speculation to bed.
