The Supreme Court ruled school prayer unconstitutional. Yale University psychologist Stanley Milgram conducted a series of obedience experiments concluding that people will go to great lengths to obey authority, at the expense of others. A year of proposing operation mongoose, the Joint Chiefs of Staff proposed to President John F. Kennedy that the United States attack itself by flying planes into buildings to blame Cuba and remove Castro. Marilyn Monroe was found dead by her psychiatrist Ralph Greenson in her bedroom. The 13-day Cuban missile crisis also occured in this year.
