Obama Releases Five Terrorists from Gitmo in Exchange for AWOL

Back in May 2014, Obama shocked much of America when, in stark rejection of long-standing US policy not to negotiate with “terrorists”, he agreed to exchange Sgt. Bowe Berghdahl for five Taliban prisoners held at Guantanamo –  five of the worst terrorists being held by the United States. The prisoner exchange further raised eyebrows when it was suggested that Bergdahl hardly deserved such an executive action because he was captured only because he had deserted his post: a treason-worthy offense.

The Taliban originally demanded one million dollars and the release of twenty-one Afghan prisoners and Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani scientist convicted in U.S. court on charges of attempted killing of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. Most of the Afghan prisoners sought were being held at Guantanamo Bay. The Taliban later reduced its demand to six Taliban prisoners. After Taliban commander Awal Gul died of a heart attack at Guantanamo Bay on February 2, 2011, the demand was reduced to five Taliban prisoners.

The move broke a law requiring the White House to notify members of Congress before any detainee transfers, according to the Government Accountability Office.

“The Department of Defense violated section 8111 of the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2014 when it transferred five individuals detained at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to the nation of Qatar without providing at least 30-days notice to certain congressional committees.”

When the exchange was made, Bergdahl was treated by the Obama administration as a hero who served his country with “honor and distinction.” His parents were honored with a Rose Garden ceremony at the White House.

When the father stepped up to the microphone, sporting a full beard that mimicked those of the men who were swapped for his son, he began by thanking Allah for the release of his son! He praised Allah. He even began speaking in Pashto, the language of the Taliban. The cameras panned off to President Obama who stood stoically next to the pair, with head held high and an odd smirk on his face. That smirk sent a message to many Americans and confirmed in their minds what they had suspected for years. We had a Muslim sympathizer in the White House.

The five released by Obama were not ordinary terrorists. These were the men who created attacks, the “masterminds” of the terror world. We were told they no longer posed a threat, but this would prove to be a frivolous statement as each of these men would soon be back with the Taliban. After the swap was organized and Bergdahl was released, former President Obama sent Susan Rice out on five Sunday talk shows to explain his move. She told reporters and the world that Bowe Bergdahl had served with “honor and distinction.” She played down the idea that he had deserted his post, saying, “Lets just be thankful he is home, home to his family.”

As Breitbart reports, back then National Security Advisor Susan Rice defended the prisoner swap for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl on the June 1, 2014 broadcast of ABC’s “This Week” by saying Bergdahl “served the United States with honor and distinction.”

Regarding the desertion allegations, she said Bergdahl, “served the United States with honor and distinction. And we’ll have the opportunity eventually to learn what has transpired in the past years.”

Rice also said that “assurances relating to the movement, the activities, the monitoring of those detainees [released in exchange for Bergdahl] give us confidence that they cannot and, in all likelihood, will not pose a significant risk to the United States. And that it is in our national interests that this transfer had been made.”

All of this followed what Obama’s presidency has truly excelled at: a photo op.

Unfortunately, March 25, 2015 was yet another day of humiliation for an administration whose most recent foreign “success” had been arming the Yemen rebels with hundreds of millions in weapons leading to their successful expulsion of the Yemen president (and Obama ally) when earlier the same afternoon (Mar 25th), the Army announced it would officially charge Bowe Bergdahl with desertion for leaving his post in 2009.

Sgt Bergdahl took an unusual route into the US military, studying ballet and joining a sailing expedition from the Atlantic to the Pacific before attempting to enlist in the French Foreign Legion. Only after being rejected by France did he join the US Army.

On June 25, 2009, Bergdahl’s battalion suffered its first casualty: First Lieutenant Brian Bradshaw was killed by a roadside bomb near the village of Yaya Kheyl, not far from Bergdahl’s outpost. Bergdahl’s father believes Bradshaw and Bergdahl had grown close at the National Training Center and that Bradshaw’s death darkened Bergdahl’s mood.

On June 27, 2009, Bergdahl sent an e-mail to his parents before he was captured:

mom, dad

The future is too good to waste on lies. And life is way too short to care for the damnation of others, as well as to spend it helping fools with their ideas that are wrong. I have seen their ideas and I am ashamed to even be american. The horror of the self-righteous arrogance that they thrive in. It is all revolting. […] [Three good sergeants had been forced to move to another company] […] and one of the biggest shit bags is being put in charge of the team. […] [My battalion commander was] a conceited old fool. […] In the US army you are cut down for being honest … but if you are a conceited brown nosing shit bag you will be allowed to do what ever you want, and you will be handed your higher rank … The system is wrong. I am ashamed to be an american. And the title of US soldier is just the lie of fools. … The US army is the biggest joke the world has to laugh at. It is the army of liars, backstabbers, fools, and bullies. The few good SGTs are getting out as soon as they can, […] I am sorry for everything here. These people need help, yet what they get is the most conceited country in the world telling them that they are nothing and that they are stupid, that they have no idea how to live … We don’t even care when we hear each other talk about running their children down in the dirt streets with our armored trucks … We make fun of them in front of their faces, and laugh at them for not understanding we are insulting them […] I am sorry for everything. The horror that is america is disgusting. There are a few more boxes coming to you guys. Feel free to open them, and use them.[2]:4

Bergdahl was right about one thing, the war was a sham and we should not have been there. Bob Bergdahl responded to his son’s final message not long after he received it:

OBEY YOUR CONSCIENCE!

Dear Bowe, In matters of life and death, and especially at war, it is never safe to ignore ones’ conscience. Ethics demands obedience to our conscience. It is best to also have a systematic oral defense of what our conscience demands. Stand with like minded men when possible. Dad.

Bergdahl also left a note on his pillow the night he walked away from his post, indicating that Bergdahl wanted to renounce his citizenship, according to officials who debriefed two former members of Bergdahl’s unit. The not, if it existed disappeared, but it was said to have said that he was unhappy with the way the military had treated him. He then set out in the middle of the night to join the Taliban.

Bergdahl’s sergeant and team leader said right after the weird PFC walked away from his unit, “we started picking up radio intercepts from a nearby village that Bergdahl was there seeking contact with the Taliban.”

What did he expect? It was war. He would quickly find himself captured, and not to welcoming arms like he anticipated. His first response was to seek revenge on his former commanders. He began by giving Taliban leaders the locations of our military posts and other strategic and tactical information that instantly put our soldiers in danger. Troops were deployed to seek him out and America lost 6 brave men and a service dog in the following days.

As far back as 2010, the respected British newspaper of record, the Sunday TIMES, reported from Afghanistan that sources told them then-PFC Bowe Bergdahl had converted to Islam, taken the Muslim name of “Abdullah” and collaborated with the enemy. A Taliban deputy district commander in Paktika Province who called himself Haji Nadeem, said Bergdahl had taught him how to dismantle a mobile phone and turn it into a remote control device to trigger a roadside bomb.

Buetow, defying the Army’s attempt to muzzle him (Bergdahl’s unit members were ordered to sign “non-disclosure” statements in a blatant move to keep the true nature of the private’s departure secret) told CNN there was a sudden increase in attacks on the American outpost right after Bergdahl’s disappearance.

“Soon after he left, IED’s started going off directly under our truck convoys. They (the Taliban) were getting perfect hits every time. Their ambushes were very calculated, very methodical, like they knew what we were going to do before we did it. It was incredibly suspicious.”

The former NCO said Bergdahl “knew sensitive information” that, if provided to the Taliban, could put U.S. troops at greater risk of death or injury.”

“We were very worried he was giving information to the enemy,” Buetow said.

You can be sure it won’t be forgotten by the families of those soldiers who lost their lives looking for Bergdahl. Can you imagine how they will feel when the onetime private banks those “big bucks” and gets lucrative book deals and TV movie offers?

Cody Full, a member of Bergdahl’s platoon, said Bergdahl “knowingly deserted and put thousands of people in danger because he did.”

Retired general Michael Flynn blamed the deaths of six soldiers on the search for Bergdahl, although the Army’s investigations did not report that any of the slain soldiers were part of the search.

“The truth has been out there the entire time. We’ve been telling everybody that wants to listen what the truth is from shortly after Bergdahl disappeared to the initial Army investigation to when he was traded back last year. Everybody that was around him, knew what the truth was and it’s just a relief that the United States Army did the right thing in charging Bergdahl with desertion and misconduct,” former Army medic Josh Cornelison, who served in Bergdahl’s platoon, said.

The judge in his case, however, did not sentence him to prison, instead ordering him busted down to private, a measly fine of $1,000 and a dishonorable discharge.

During his trial, Bergdahl pled guilty in order to avoid an extremely harsh penalty. For unknown reasons, prosecutors decided to take the death penalty off the table. The seemingly very forgiving or corrupt judge gave Bergdahl zero jail time, a dishonorable discharge, he would have to pay back all earnings from after he returned to the US, and he was stripped of his rank – a rank only bestowed upon him after he was returned to the US by Obama.

Six factors seem to have played a role in prompting Army Col. Jeffrey Nance, the judge in his case, to let Bergdahl off without prison time.

  1. First, Bergdahl was held captive for five years by the Taliban and says he was tortured.
  2. Second, several soldiers who served with Bergdahl made favorable comments about his military service.
  3. Third, Bergdahl’s attorneys asked Nance to give Bergdahl a dishonorable discharge.
  4. Fourth, it is alleged that Bergdahl was suffering  from post-traumatic stress disorder that was undiagnosed when he left his post in Afghanistan.
  5. Fifth, there was the claim that Bergdahl suffered from a schizotypal personality disorder prior to military service.
  6. And finally, Bergdahl’s willingness to share information and cooperate with investigators warranted some leniency.

However, lest we forget, Bergdahl cost the lives of six soldiers and put other soldiers in danger. Despite his trauma, he had to realize that desertion would jeopardize those attempting a rescue operation.

It is noteworthy that the Bergdahl case has had an effect on military morale, The Army Code includes the belief that you do not abandon your fellow soldiers in battle. That is axiomatic. After the Bergdahl case, that matter is somewhat ambiguous.

Perhaps the one issue that remains unambiguous is the role played by President Barack Obama. By honoring Bergdahl in 2015, despite a full 2009 Army report indicating his desertion from duty, President Obama intentionally misled the American public and has contributed to the cynical belief you cannot trust comments emanating from the White House.

In the meantime, the five members of the Afghan Taliban who were freed by Obama joined the insurgent group’s political office in Qatar and three went on to fight for al Qaeda.

Meanwhile, there were innocent servicemen who remained behind bars and with criminal records because of the Obama administration’s politics. Shameful.

Former Navy Sailor Kristian Saucier was convicted of breaking the same law that Hillary Clinton broke, except instead of mishandling and destroying thousands of classified government documents, Saucier’s crime was taking a picture aboard his submarine. He served prison time and then went on house arrest, facing a much harsher punishment than Bergdahl (who got to walk free).

Army 1st Lieutenant Clint Lorance was convicted and sentenced to 19 years in Leavenworth for ordering his men to open fire on two men on a motorcycle in Afghanistan. While the prosecution presented these Afghans as “innocent victims,” they withheld evidence at trial that there was gunpowder residue on the deceased’s hands, as well as other biometric evidence connecting them to a number of roadside bombings in the area. But, because they didn’t have weapons on them, Lorance is now rotting away in prison for the next decade and a half for a snap judgement call. Meanwhile, Bergdahl goes free for actively seeking out the enemy.

Then there was the case of Marine Reserves Major Jason Brezler. The Obama administration tried to force him out of the military for warning one of his friends that an Afghan on base was a known child rapist. Two weeks after he sent his warning, he began receiving punishments, one of the Afghan officer’s child sex slaves used an AK-47 to murder three Marines. He received a harsher punishment than Bergdahl.

We can literally go on and on. We can talk about Matthew Hindes, the Navy Sailor who almost lost his child for not being able to appear in court because he was aboard a nuclear submarine. We can talk about just what it took to get Charles Martland reinstated, after Obama tried to involuntarily discharge him for shoving a confessed Afghan child rapist to the ground. Or how about Air Force Lt. Colonel Michael Kersten, who the Obama administration tried to punish because he said in an interview that his role model is Jesus.

We will never stop defending innocent servicemen and women. And right now, we need to defend the servicemen (and dog) who died trying to search for this traitor Bergdahl. If he didn’t desert his post and seek out the enemy, these men would likely still be alive. They deserve justice!

Mike Rogers, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee said he was “extremely troubled” and that “This fundamental shift in U.S. policy signals to terrorists around the world a greater incentive to take U.S. hostages”. This sentiment was repeated by Congressmen Buck McKeon and James Inhofe, who released a joint statement saying that terrorists now have a “strong incentive” to capture more soldiers.

Deeper in the Rabbit Hole! The Benghazi Connection…

So here’s the REAL story: Ambassador Stevens was sent to Benghazi to secretly retrieve US made Stinger Missiles that the State Dept. had supplied to Ansar al Sharia in Libya WITHOUT Congressional oversight or permission.

Sec State Hillary Clinton had brokered the Libya deal through Ambassador Stevens and a Private Arms Dealer named Marc Turi, but some of the shoulder fired Stinger Missiles ended up in Afghanistan where they were used against our own military.   On July 25th, 2012, a US   Chinook helicopter was downed by one of them.   Not destroyed only because the idiot Taliban didn’t arm the missile.  The helicopter didn’t explode, but it had to land and an ordnance team recovered the missile’s serial number which led back to a cache of Stinger Missiles kept in Qatar by the CIA.

Obama and Hillary were in full panic mode, so Ambassador Stevens was sent to Benghazi to retrieve the rest of the Stinger Missiles.   This was a “do-or-die” mission, which explains the Stand Down Orders given to multiple rescue teams during the siege of the US Embassy.

It was the State Dept., NOT the CIA, that supplied the Stinger Missiles to our sworn enemies because Gen. Petraeus at CIA would not approve supplying the deadly missiles due to their  potential use against commercial aircraft.   So then, Obama threw Gen. Petraeus under the bus when he refused to testify in support of Obama’s phony claim of a “spontaneous uprising caused by a YouTube video that insulted Muslims.”

THIS is what the investigation is all about, WHY she had a Private Server, (in order to delete the digital evidence), and WHY Obama, two weeks after the attack, told the UN that the attack was the result of the YouTube video, even though everyone KNEW it was not.

Furthermore, the Taliban knew that the administration had aided and abetted the enemy WITHOUT Congressional oversight or permission, so they began pressuring (blackmailing) the Obama Administration to release Taliban generals being held at Guantanamo.

Bowe Bergdahl was just a useful pawn used to cover the release of the Taliban generals.   Everyone knew Bergdahl was a traitor but Obama used Bergdahl’s exchange for the five Taliban generals to cover that Obama was being coerced by the Taliban about the  unauthorized Stinger Missile deal.
