Never in history had so many unselfish leaders united together as the founding fathers. They sought a balanced government between tyranny and anarchy, knowing neither could be effective in leading a free and independent people. They believed that all men were created equal with certain unalienable rights and formed a constitution that was meant to protect the peoples rights and installed checks and balances to prevent elected men from usurping authority and acting as a king or dictator.
